Great in theory, disapointing in use Nov 05, 2010
By Marie I bought this specifically because of its shape. I often get knots in my shoulders that wrap down my collar bones, as well as knots under my shoulder blades. This covers all the areas at once. That part is good.
Previous microwaveable heating pad products that I have used, such as the bed buddy, have been filled with rice and they maintain heat pretty well, have only a slight rice odor, and are pretty comfortable. That is what I was expecting.
This is different. It is filled with some sort of hard beads; I am assuming they are plastic. They do not get hot even after 3 minutes in the microwave, only warm, and the warmth only lasts about 10 minutes. This is probably good in that it prevents burning, but disappointing when you want heat to penetrates muscles deeply. I found to get a bit more heat you can wear it upside down with the quilted side (which is thinner fabric) down. However, it would have been much more effective if filled with rice. I am considering cutting it open and replacing the filling myself, since it is the closest I have come to finding the right shape of product, and I threw out the box so I can't return it.
The worst part is the smell. Once heated there is a horrible mildew smell....like a dirty swimming pool. Its not really noticeable when its cold, but when hot it is terrible. If you are sensitive to smells, do NOT use this heat wrap, it could easily make you sick.

Thank you Santa Jan 11, 2011

"Knowledge IS Power"
Santa brought this for me and I have to say, that I really do like it - it helps with the nerves and muscles in the shoulders, upper back and lower neck areas.
I see a few have said it doesn't stay cold or hot for very long, and I would have to agree that 10 to 15 minutes is about right. As for getting 'hot', no.. it doesn't get particularly hot, but it does get warm and a warm heat is better than taking a chance on getting burned.
As for it staying cold, I have no idea as I have not tried that aspect of it.. but would assume that it would be about the same time frame.
As for the 'smell' that a few have reported, I'd send it back if it was that foul smelling... Mine doesn't smell like burgers on the grill or fresh baked bread coming out of the oven, but it sure as heck doesn't smell like swamp water either.. To those that have had such bad luck with the smell, you should have returned it then and there in my opinion...
In general, I am quite satisfied with my wrap (thanks Santa).
I would have given it 5 stars if the heat lasted a bit longer. I did figure out that if you re-heat it a second time (after the first 10 to 15 minutes, it seems to last long enough to get me the relief that I'm looking for...
Hope this helps some like it does me.

Simply perfect Aug 27, 2009
By J. Lindsay This is a simply made and very effective product for easing pain in upper back and shoulders. A good value as compared to "gel" wraps on the market.

Does Not Freeze Jun 23, 2010
By Len the Man

I thought this product was able to freeze but it doesn't. It gets really cold but it doesn't last that long. I got it for my wife to wear over her shirt when she drives to work in order to stay cool since her air conditioning went out. She works about 20 minutes away, not too far and she says it only stays cold for about 10 minutes and then it becomes room temperature and even a little warm by the time she gets to work. I thought it was more like an ice pack where it had gel in it that can freeze but I think it has some sort of beeds it that just gets cold and not frozen. I did leave it in the freezer for 2 days and it still didn't stay cold enough for her to get to work just 20 minutes away. Oh well, what can you do :(
