Not bad, considering it's a toy Jan 08, 2009

I bought this to write invisible numbers on the back of wedding invitation RSVP cards because using pencil is just too obvious and messes with the overall aesthetic. I am quite pleased with this pen.
The pen is more like a felt tip marker, not a ballpoint pen. It writes nice & smooth, like a thin marker (~2 mm thick). The ink comes out slightly yellowish, but it's not very noticeable to the casual observer - you probably wouldn't notice there's writing there unless you knew where to look OR unless there is a *lot* of writing.
The UV light is not very bright (another product/toy, the Secret Agent File, has a pen whose light is MUCH brighter), but it does the trick since the pen writes nicely like a marker. Overall, not bad - the UV light could be brighter, and the ink could be brighter, but the marker writes well & seems pretty sturdy.

This pen is totally cool, really works, and is of good quality. I wish now that I had purchased one for each kid. It even "writes" on surfaces other than paper. It is very cool for my 8 and 10 year old who love to play Secret Agents, and was half the price on Amazon compared to the local stores.

Disappointing Jul 05, 2010
By Uncle Gyrus I bought two of these for my kids. Neither one lasted more than a few days. The kids found them really fun at first but like most of the spygear products they're made really cheaply. Specifically, the on-off button wears out quickly and the kids start shaking and banging on them to try to get the light to come on. I've been really disappointed with other spygear products as well. Enticing packaging, smart marketing, clever ideas... unfortunately the manufacturing is shamelessly cheap.
As far as the other people who gave this product good reviews...I suspect they may have commented prematurely, I'd like them to mention whether or not the product is still working a month after purchase.
